바울의 새관점과 이신칭의 교리: 칭의의 기독론, 인간론, 종말론적 측면에 관하여

초록

개혁자들은 이신칭의 교리를 가리켜 교회를 분리하는 중요한 이슈라고 했는데, 그들의 주장대로 이 교리는 로마 가톨릭과 개신교를 분리하는 근본 원인이 되었다. 최근에 칭의 교리에 대한 새로운 관심이 생겨나면서 이 교리는현대 학자들 사이에 가장 뜨거운 논쟁거리 중 하나가 되었다. 이신칭의에 관한 논의는 조직신학적 관점에서뿐만 성경신학자들 사이에서도 활발하게 토론이 이루어지고 있다. 특히 ‘바울의 새 관점’의 등장은 종교개혁자들의 이신칭의 교리를 재검토하게 되는 중요한 계기가 되었을 뿐만 아니라 바울 신학의 전반적인 연구에 새로운 논쟁을 던졌다. 이 논문에서는 현대의 칭의 논쟁에서 다루어지고 있는 핵심적인 이슈가 무엇인지 검토한 후에 칭의 교리를 성경신학적인 관점에서 보다 합리적이고 체계적으로 이해할 수 있는 방안을 제안하려고 한다. 우선 로마 가톨릭과 개혁자들의 칭의 교리를 살펴보고 그들이 각자 주장하는 교리의 핵심적인 이슈를살펴본 후에 로마 가톨릭과 개혁자들이 각각의 칭의 교리를 발전시켜 나가게 된 신학적인 원리를 확인하려고 한다. 로마 가톨릭이 그들의 칭의 교리를발전시켜 나간 신학적 원리는 그들의 인간론적인 관심에 근거를 두고 있다. 반면에 개혁자들은 칭의 교리를 기독론적인 관점에서 전개해 나갔는데 칭의는 신자들이 그리스도를 믿는 믿음에 근거하여 하나님께서 그들을 죄 없다고 선언하는 법정적인 행위로 이해했다. 논문의 후반부에서는 칭의의 교리와 관련하여 바울의 새 관점에서 주장하는 주된 요점을 살펴본다. 그들의 주장의 장단점을 확인한 후에 내린 결론은바울의 새 관점이 로마 가톨릭의 칭의 교리와 개혁자들의 칭의 교리를 서로결합시키려는 시도를 하고 있음을 알게 되었다. 그러므로 로마 가톨릭과 개혁자 그리고 바울의 새 관점에서 주장하는 각각의 칭의 교리의 논점을 검토한 후에 칭의 교리를 좀 더 포괄적이고 성경적으로 이해하기 위해서는 기독론과 인간론 그리고 종말론이라는 세 관점에서 동시에 칭의 교리를 이해해야 한다는 것이 이 논문에서 주장하는 논지이다.

Abstract

The doctrine of justification according to the reformers was a church dividing issue, and truly it was the cause of separation between the Roman Catholic and Protestant. In recent years the discussion on the doctrine of justification has been revived, and in fact it has become one of the most controversial issue in modern scholarship. Not only in the field of systematic theology but also in the biblical scholarship there is a renewed interest in this subject. The rise of the new perspective on Paul was a momentum to review the reformation’s doctrine of justification by faith, and in fact the Pauline studies as a whole. This thesis tries to identify, first of all, the central issue of the current discussion on the doctrine of justification, and attempts to suggest a way to understand the issue better. We first carried out a brief survey in order to identify the central argument of the Roman Catholic and Protestant respectively. The theological principle of the Roman Catholic’s development of the doctrine of justification was based on their anthropological interest. Whereas the reformers articulated their doctrine in the christological perspective, and saw justification basically as God’s forensic declaration of not guilty on account of the believers’ faith in Christ.In the second half of the thesis, we briefly looked at the main argument of the New Perspective on Paul especially concerning their doctrine of justification. The pros and cons of their argument are weighted up, and we concluded that The NPP’s doctrine of justification somehow try to integrate the Catholic’s doctrine of justification with that of the reformers. Then after considering the main arguments of Catholic,Protestant and the NPP, we suggest that in order to understanding the doctrine of justification more comprehensively and biblically we should understand the doctrine in the three perspectives of christology, anthropology and eschatology.
