Abstract

This article deals with a theme of whether such measures are based on biblical teachings in the situation that church worship has been converted to untacted worship due to corona virus 19. Given the rapid acceptance of non-face-to-face worship without critical discussion due to corona virus 19, it is meaningful to look at what the Bible teaches about the wor- ship-form albeit a late one. Especially, I try to provide some answers to the current issues in terms of the worship form and principles that Paul established. In deciding the worship-form in his churches, Paul tended to choose worship-form in accordance with the given custom (or situation), but completely ruled out any form which seemingly engaged in serving anything other than God. As a result, the worship-form of Paul’s church showed some external similarity to that of the synagogue, but its contents were totally different from it in that Paul taught his members to worship not only God but also Jesus who fulfilled God’s will, not to discriminate between members in Jesus, and to replace Sabbath with the day of the resurrection of Jesus. To sum up such differences, it is worth noting that in Paul’s church Jesus Christ is credited as the very object in her worship-form and contents In addition, Paul recommended church members to extend the scope of their worship of God and Jesus to all areas of their lives without any limitation of a specific time and space. In the principle(s) of determining the worship-form and contents in Paul’s churches, it is the most important factor is whether or not the gospel of Jesus Christ was distorted by any suggested worship-form (others were treated as secondary elements). Keeping in mind these principles of Paul’s church ministry, I recommend to discern any new attempt whether it is right or wrong, focus- ing on whether the gospel is fully proclaimed, not considering the custom. So I suggest that each church focuses on preaching the gospel in a way and building up the congregation if the truth is not twisted in any form.
