Abstract
The present study aimed to examine the Sequential Mediating Effects of ambivalence over expressing emotion and self-esteem on the relationship between perceived negative parenting attitudes and psychological well-being among non- disabled adolescent siblings. A self-report online questionnaire was administered to non-disabled adolescent siblings, and data from 159 participants were analyzed. SPSS Statistics 29 was used for statistical analysis, and SPSS Process Macro 4.3 was used to test the mediation model, and bootstrap was used to test the significance of the indirect effect. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, negative parenting attitudes, psychological well-being, ambivalence over expressing emotion, and self-esteem all showed significant correlations. Second, there were no significant differences in negative parenting attitudes, psychological well-being, ambivalence over expressing emotion, and self-esteem depending on demographic variables such as gender and sibling ranking. Third, there was a sequential mediating effect of ambivalence over expressing emotion and self-esteem on the relationship between negative parenting attitudes and psychological well-being. This study is significant in that it confirmed the Sequential Mediating Effects of ambivalence over expressing emotion and self-esteem in the process by which perceived negative parenting attitudes by non-disabled adolescent siblings affects their psychological well-being. Based on this, the therapeutic implications of ways to increase psychological well-being for non-disabled adolescent siblings were discussed.
