Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences and perceptions of non-disabled employees who work with colleagues with mental disorders, and to identify support strategies that facilitate more inclusive and effective workplace integration. In-depth individual interviews were conducted with eight non-disabled adult employees who had direct experience working alongside colleagues with mental disorders. The interview data were transcribed and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Two main themes and eight sub-themes emerged from the analysis. The two main themes were “The Process of Understanding and Adapting” and “Suggestions for Inclusive Workplaces.” Based on these results, discussions on the implications of the findings, limitations of the study, and suggestions for future research were presented. This study is significant in that it highlights the real-life experiences of non-disabled employees working with colleagues with mental disorders, examines the challenges they face, adaptation process, and proposes support strategies to promote positive and inclusive work environments for all employees.
