Abstract

The major object of this paper is the micro research on concrete executive procedure of public examination(科擧制度) of Chosen Dynasty by using the official documents(古文書) made at that times. To give a full detail of executive procedure of public examination, I show several official documents in original form and analyze them in relation to the acts of regal regulations. Subjects of investigation of the public examination system are as follows: the announcement of examination schedule, and three kinds preliminary examination(照訖講, 學禮講, 典禮講), and examinee registration(錄名), and delay of availability of local examination(陳試), and special examinations for benefit to advance directly capital or final examination(直赴) or to gain additional points(給分), and each certificate cards, etc. Investigation on these subjects make it possible to reconstruct the actual aspects and to ascertain the exactness of the executive procedure of public examination system. By using the ancient original documents we can more thoroughly understand the basic rules and regal regulations of public examination system, and more concretely confirm its actual execution and relevance between them.
