존 파이퍼 설교에 대한 분석과 함의

초록

한국교회에 드리워진 위기의 암운 사이로 희망의 빛을 갈구하고 있는 한국교회 설교자들은 최근의 ‘새로운 칼빈주의’(New Calvinism) 운동과 핵심 설교자들에 대해 주목할 필요가 있다. 분명한 것은, 설교자 존 파이퍼(John Piper)가 새로운 칼빈주의 부흥에중추적인 역할을 하고 있다는 사실이다. 이미 국내에는 파이퍼의 저술들이영향을 미치고 있으나, 아직까지 파이퍼의 설교에 대한 국내 학자들의 설교학적인 분석에 대한 연구는 아직 미미한 수준이라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 현대 미국 칼빈주의 부흥의 기수라고 할 수 있는 파이퍼 설교분석과 종합을 통해 한국교회 설교자들에게 주는 함의와 통찰을 제시하는것이 본 소고의 목적이다. 본 논문의 첫 번째 장에서는 파이퍼 설교의 배경막과 설교철학에 대해살펴 볼 것이다. 나아가 파이퍼 설교 분석을 통한 함의를 제시하기 위해 본논문은 로마서 12장 1-2절 설교 중 한편을 선택하여 심층적으로 분석하고, 로마서 설교를 중심으로 선택한 약 50 편 정도의 설교들에 대한 전반적인설교 분석과 종합적 통찰을 제시하고자 한다. 결론적으로 본 연구자는 한국교회 설교자들이 발전적으로 조명해 볼 필요가 있는 파이퍼 설교의 핵심적인 강점과 단점을 제시해 보고자 한다.

Abstract

In the midst of the storm clouds of crisis, Korean preachers who are yearning for a light of hope need to pay attention to the New Calvinist movement. Undoubtedly, John Piper plays a vital role as a leading preacher in this movement. Although he has already been introduced to Korean churches by means of his books and sermons, homileticians tend to make little effort to study his preaching. The primary aim of this study, thus, is to analyze and evaluate Piper’s sermons for the purpose of providing some homiletical traits and insights to Korean preachers. In order to suggest homiletical observations and implications, this research intends not only to focus on Piper’s sermon on Romans 12:1-2 but also to investigate his fifty sermons. In the conclusion, the researcher presents the strengths and weaknesses of Piper’s sermon that Korean preachers need to progressively take into account.
