Abstract

God’s creation order is a holistic concept that includes neurophysiology, psychological relations, family system, and socio-cultural level. When each level functions rightly according to God’s purpose, the creation order itself glorifies God. Addiction, however, destroys the creation order. This study is a follow-up study on previous studies that explored the Christian pathological perspective focusing on the category of sin, exploring addiction dynamics in terms of dis-order of creation order, particularly neurobioloigal and psychosocial order. Addiction spoils the neurobiological order, which was originally meant to praise and seek God, turning it into a state of enslavement to addictive substances or actions, rather than to God. Additionally, addiction disrupts the order of love for God and love for neighbors by distorting the psychosocial order, originally designed to facilitate the experience of God’s presence and providence through loving relationships with both God and neighbors, into self-deception, trauma, and social isolation. Based on the research, this inquiry suggests practical implications for addiction treatment: utilizing neuroscientific approaches to restore the damaged nervous system, establishing a healthy therapeutic relationship, confronting to addiction issues, healing the hidden traumas, promoting stable nurturing and interpersonal experiences, and leveraging social support within the community.
