본 연구는 듀이의 이론이 완전한 경험이 곧 미학이라는 의미와 그 완전한 경험은 인간이 일상의 삶 속에서 경험하는 직접적으로 즐길 수 있는 의미의 축적된 경험에서부터 시작한다. 이것은 곧 미적 경험이라는 예술영역의 확대로서, 양적 증가만이 아니라 질적 부분도 요구한다. 즉 전통철학의 이원론적 분리를 비판함으로써 오는 것임을 구체적으로 밝힌다. 그러므로 듀이의 미적 경험과 사회와의 내적 연속성에 의한 통합성은 그 자체 내에 속해있는 다양성을 무시하는 것이 아니다. 목적이 안정된 결과를 향한 하나의 경험으로 통합시킬 수 있음을 보여 주며, 현재의 무용이 사회와 함께 발전하기 위해서 가져야 할 방안을 마련해 준 것에 그 의의를 둘 수 있다. 이러한 무용의 의미를 밝혀 주는 도구로써 듀이의 미학론은 우리에게 그야말로 등대의 밝은 불빛과 같은 확연한 방향을 제시하고 있다.
Abstract
This thesis intends to illuminate the continuity in dance and society through Dewey's esthetics. According to Dewey, any experience that is enjoyable directly in daily life can be considered as esthetic experience. Eventually, Dewey's theory suggests that every experience should be an art when not only the professional domain of art but also daily life or overall social condition develop into a meaningful experience, which means the expansion of domain of art. The above expansion signifies both qualitative and quantitative enlargement, which is caused by the denial of traditional dualism. In this thesis, Dewey's theory on the unity by the intrinsic continuity in esthetic experience and society is applied to suggest what measures dance needs to take to go together with society.
