댄스와 스포츠의 앙상블로서 댄스스포츠는 예술적인 측면과 스포츠․운동기술적인 측면이 동시에 공존하는 신체 퍼포먼스의 영역 중 하나이다. 이러한 댄스와 스포츠의 혼합 장르로서 댄스스포츠는 각각 다섯 종목으로 구성되는 모던볼룸댄스와 라틴아메리카댄스로 나뉘어진다. 연구자는 이 글에서 사랑의 춤이라고 불리며 활발한 분위기를 연출하고, 밝고 명랑한 열정적인 생동감 및 더 나아가 추상적인 미가 가장 잘 표현되고 있는 라틴아메리카댄스의 다섯 종목에 대해 각각의 종목에서 나타나는 심미적 특질을 미학적으로 탐색하였다. 특히 신체미, 공간미, 동작미, 리듬미라는 네 가지 미적 범주의 틀을 구성하여 그것으로부터 라틴아메리카댄스의 심미적 특성을 구명하였다. 그 결과 라틴아메리카댄스가 모던볼룸댄스와 차별되는 점은 골반을 중심으로 한 움직임의 신체미와 무게 중심점의 공간 이동을 통해 하나의 드라마가 연출되는 듯한 공간미 그리고 특유한 리듬과 박자를 바탕으로 남녀의 다양한 움직임의 동작미와 리듬미를 자신의 심미감으로 표출한다는 사실을 확인하였다. 또한 연구자는 연구대상인 라틴아메리카댄스를 미적 대상으로 삼아 예술의 기본구조인 예술가-작품-감상자의 미적 현상 속에 위치시키는 미학적 탐색을 시도하였다. 아울러 이러한 미학적인 탐색에 앞서 댄스스포츠에 대한 일반적인 내용의 서술을 통해 댄스스포츠의 특성을 명확히 하였으며, 일반 미학에서의 미학적 논의를 살피면서 댄스스포츠미학의 가능성을 탐색하였다.
Abstract
In this research, among two categories of dance sport, modern ballroom and Latin America, aesthetic contents of five dances under Latin America dance were concretely discussed. Especially, aesthetic discussion on physical beauty, motional beauty, and rhythmical beauty based on the division of body, movement, space, rhythm, and kinetics by each dance in Hankyo Seo(2006)'s translation of Ruud Vermey(1994)'s preceding study was attempted. Moreover, aesthetic value found in the content and motion these five dances was explored. Latin America dance is generally very ornate, passionate, fast, and flexible. It has big movements and strong expressions which require high degree of difficulty in technique. Dazzling costume, lighting, stage setting, and passionate atmosphere between the couple draw the audience into the realm of fantasy. Latin America dance, away from tradition and effects on stage performance, arouse the audience's interest and inspiration through aesthetic expression of beauty of new and unprecedented movement and expression. Such Latin America dance has aesthetical characteristic and unique content distinct from modern ballroom dance. In particular, movement based upon the pelvis radiate physical beauty, and unique twisting movement, occurred by the weight shift between left and right foot, creates the motional beauty. Through spatial movement of central weight, spatial beauty which appears to be production of a drama is formed. Moreover, couple's various movements based upon unique rhythm and tempo add aesthetic appreciation through expression of joy and sorrow of human life, and sensitive impression expressed in such dance amplifies aesthetical sensation.
