한국 스트릿 댄스 발전과정에 나타난 밈(Meme)적 현상

Abstract

The study interprets the development process of Korean street dance based on meme theory. It has helped shed new light on cultural evolution while expanding the current scope of research. Currently, there is no specialized research paper on meme phenomenon concerning street dance. The primary method of analysis used in this paper is a documentary review. Street dance first gained popularity in Korea through visual ‘materials’ of overseas dance. These materials were mirrored, modified, and over time evolved into modern Korean street dance. ‘Meme’ features intervention of mistake and trimming, resulting in modification. At the same time, ideas, thoughts, and behaviors of human beings are imitated and transmitted to brains. ‘Meme’ is ‘street dance’ and ‘meme transposer’ is ‘material,’ understanding the relation of both. The material dance is ‘selected’ by the favor of a dancer, ‘imitated’ and then transferred’ in Korean street dance’s development process. Mistakes and trimmings intervene in the course, which causes ‘modification’, that is, ‘evolution to Korean street dance.’ Meme evolution following the precess of meme transposer, selection, imitation, and transmission is found in Korean street dance development, which can be interpreted as the evolution of the Lamarckian culture. The reason that street dancers dance may be interpreted as the phenomenon of meme need corresponding to the biological need to spread their gene containing their being and value as broad as possible and leave it as long as possible by employing dance as the transposer. The study interprets the development process of Korean street dance based on Lamarckian evolution to bring light to its cultural and evolutionary value. It philosophically approaches the reason street dancers dance. It is to understand and spread memes while living their values by employing philosophical meaning through dance.
