Abstract
Gender Equity and Korean and US Women's Participation in Olympic Games From 1988 to 2000 Han J. Lee(Yonsei University) Lee, Hyung-IL(Sunmoon University) The purpose of this study was to examine Korean and US women's participation in the Olympic Games. Research question was: Is there a discriminatory structure in the men's and women's participation pattern in Olympic Games? The recent Olympic Games including the year of 1998, 1992, 1996, and 2000 were analyzed in terms of number of athletes, coaches, and administrators and compared between men and women. Results of this study indicated that more women have the opportunity to play sports in the recent Games. However, fewer Korean women than the US represented coaching and administrative positions of women's teams. This is primarily because of a lack of efforts by Korean Olympic Committee to recruit for those coaching and administrative positions. Affirmative Action was discussed to implement gender equity in sport domain.
