캐디의 사회적 지위 제고를 위한 분업구조의 재해석

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve social perceptions about golf caddies as a traditional product of radicalized social hierarchy in past in accordance with social ideology to implement equality in our modern society, and was also to search for possible roles of caddie as an important component of golf match. To meet these goals, this study addressed current social and legal standings of golf caddies, and analyzed their possible roles, duties and occupational specialty on the basis of a series of theories on division of labor as proposed by A. Smith, K. Marx, H. Spencer, etc. As a result, it was pointed out that current works of caddies involve a vertical work breakdown structure based on subordinate relationships, and thereby cause them to have very low social standings. Here, it was concluded that such structure resulted from the historical evolution of golf caddies' roles from ancient times relying on simple labor power via medieval times to industrialized society, ending up with involvement of relationships with bourgeoisie and proletarian ethics. Lately, golf caddies have faced a turning point to professional occupation even in typecast and conservative aspects of a sport called golf, but such a turning point has caused differentiations in class among caddies without regard to their better social standings. Hence, in the light of a fact that specialization opened up a chance to extend conventional roles and duties of golf caddies as a part of orientation to improve their social standings, this study suggested that work breakdown structure for better social standings of golf caddies should be changed from vertical structure to horizontal one with the help of work division based on their professionalism in the future.
