본 연구는 ‘스포츠(X)는 정의(Y)롭다.’라는 대전제를 가능하게 하는 조건으로 공정성을 제시하고, 정의로움과의 함의적 관계를 분석하고자 하는 데에 연구의 목적이 있다. 목적론적 관점에서 볼 때, 스포츠에서 공정한 기회 제공은 선수들이 경기에 참여하여 적극적인 경쟁을 도모하고, 새로운 기록에 도전할 수 있는 동기유발이라는 측면에서 의의를 지닌다. 반면, 선수마다 다른 신체적·환경적·국가적 조건의 불평등은 불공정성을 야기하고, 이는 경기 결과에 대한 불공정으로까지 확대된다. 한편, 공정성과 관련하여 스포츠에서 선수들에게 부여되는 공정한 기회나 경기규칙에 근거한 심판의 공정한 판정은 선수가 속한 국가 및 사회·문화적 영향력에 있어서 비교적 자유롭다는 특징을 지니지만 선수들이 선천적으로 타고나는 생득적인 우연성은 공정성에 있어서 다소 무기력하다는 난점이 있다. 결국 불공정한 과정은 결국 정의롭지 못한 결과를 산출한다. 소위 이러한 불평등은 곧 스포츠에서의 정의로움이 완전한 것이 아니라는 것을 시사한다. 그러나 스포츠에서 이러한 불공정은 크게 문제 되지 않는다. 스포츠에서 노력은 이 같은 불공정성을 중립시키는 유일한 매개체로 작용할 뿐만 아니라 노력이라는 행위와 스포츠가 결합 될 때 정의에 대한 확신을 지닌다. 이는 운의 작용보다 노력을 기반으로 한 목적달성의 당위성에 더 큰 의미를 부여하는 스포츠사회의 오랜 전통이 온전한 인간존재로서의 행동양식에 높은 가치를 부여하는 것으로 이해된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to present fairness as a condition that enables the premise that ‘sports (X) is justice (Y)' and to analyze the implicit relationship with justice. From the teleological viewpoint, fair equality of opportunity in sports has significance in terms of motivating athletes to participate in the game and compete actively. On the one hand, the inequality of physical, environmental, and national conditions of athletes causes unfairness, and this unfairness extends to the unfairness of the competition results. On the other hand, in relation to fairness, the fair opportunity given to athletes during competition or the fair judgment of referees based on the rules of the competition are characterized by being relatively free from the influence of the country, society, and culture to which the athlete belongs to. However, the fairness of athletes is naturally instinctive in terms of innate contingency. Unfair processes provided to athletes eventually produce unjust results. This so-called inequality suggests that justice in sports is not perfect. However, this unfairness is not a big problem in sports. In sports, effort not only acts as the only medium to neutralize unfairness, but also produces confidence in justice when sports combine with the act of effort. This study recognizes that the long tradition of the sports society, which gives greater meaning to the justification for achieving goals based on effort than the action of chance, gives high value to a behavioral style as a complete human being
