본 연구의 목적은 능력주의에 기반하고 있는 스포츠사회에서 배제할 수 없는 운의 영향력을 제시함으로써 능력주의에 함의된 노력에 대해 논증하는 데 있다. 스포츠에서 노력은 목적 달성을 위한 방법으로서 선수가 자신의 목적 달성을 위해 할 수 있는 가장 올바르고, 유일한 방법이다. 경쟁성이 농후한 스포츠에서 선수의 노력은 목표 달성과의 직접적인 관련 속에서 이루어지는 적극적인 행위로서 선수는 자신의 능력을 고도화하기 위해 한계를 제한하지 않고, 오히려 자신이 지닌 능력의 절대치를 뛰어넘는 성취 가능성을 장려하는 수단으로서 그 특징을 지닌다. 또한 훈련과정에서 신체적·감정적 고통을 인내하는 선수의 일관적 태도는 실천지를 지닌 실천행위로 볼 수 있다. 개인의 책임이 중요시되는 능력주의에서 선수의 성공이 자신이 지닌 재능과 노력으로 성취한 것이라고 한다면, 이는 자랑할만하고, 이에 따르는 보상은 당연한 것으로 본다. 그러나 선수가 부모 또는 국가 및 사회로부터 운 좋게 얻게 되는 재능의 우연성은 경기력에 영향을 미치고, 이는 결국 경기 결과에 따른 보상에 불공정한 영향을 미친다. 따라서 스포츠에서 능력주의는 선수의 재능에 주어진 우연성은 외면하고, 노력의 중요성만을 과장한 나머지 정의롭지 못하다는 결론에 이르게 된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to argue about the efforts implied by meritocracy by presenting the influence of luck that cannot be excluded in a sports society based on meritocracy. In sports, effort is the most moral and only way an athlete can achieve his or her purpose to achieve an end. In highly competitive sports, an athlete’s effort is an active act that is related to achieving goals, and it does not limit them. advancement of the athlete's own abilities but encourages achievement beyond the absolute value of their abilities. In addition, the consistent attitude of athletes who endure physical and emotional pain in the training process can be seen as a practical act with practical knowledge. Individual responsibility is important in meritocracy. If the success of an athlete is achieved with their own talent and hard work, it is worth bragging about, and the rewards are natural. However, the contingency of the talent of an athlete from their parents or from the country and society affects their performance, which in turn has an unfair effect on the rewards of the game's outcome. Therefore, in sports, meritocracy ignores the contingency given to an athlete's talent and only exaggerates the importance of effort, leading to the conclusion that it is unjust.
