성인 ADHD 성향과 대인관계문제의 관계에 대한 자기존중감과 자기지각의 매개효과

초록

본 연구는 성인 ADHD 성향을 보이는 집단의 자기존중감, 자기지각, 대인관계문제 간의 관계를 알아보고 성인 ADHD의 특성과 대인관계문제와의 관계에서 자기존중감, 자기지각이 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 4년제 대학교에 재학 중인 학생 478명(남: 194명, 여: 284명)을 대상으로 한국판 성인용 자기보고형 Young ADHD 척도(K-YAQ-S), 자기존중감 척도, 자기지각 척도, 한국판 대인관계 문제 원형 척도(IIP-C)를 실시하였다. 자료 분석을 위해 이원상관관계분석을 통한 변인 간 상관관계를 알아보았고, 위계적 중다회귀분석을 통한 경로분석으로 각 변인 간 영향과 매개효과를 검증하였다. 주요 결과를 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 성인 ADHD 척도점수와 자기존중감, 자기지각은 부적상관을 보였는데 아동 ADHD의 경우에는 ADHD 특성이 높은 아동일수록 보다 긍정적인 자기지각을 했다는 기존의 연구 결과를 고려해 볼 때 자기지각이 아동 ADHD, 성인 ADHD를 구분 짓는 데 주요한 요인으로 작용할 수 있음을 시사한다. 둘째, 성인 ADHD 척도점수와 대인관계 문제는 정적상관을 보였다. 셋째, 성인 ADHD 척도점수와 대인관계문제에서 자기존중감은 부분매개를 하는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 성인 ADHD성향을 보이는 사람들이 성인 ADHD의 증상을 호소하지 않는 사람보다 낮은 자기존중감과 부정적인 자기지각을 갖고 있고, 대인관계에서 많은 어려움을 갖고 있으며, 성인 ADHD성향을 보이는 사람들의 낮은 자기존중감이 대인관계문제의 원인이 될 수 있음이 증명되었다. 특히, 성인 ADHD성향을 보이는 사람은 그렇지 않은 사람보다 자기중심적이며, 정서표현을 어려워하고 있으며 동시에 주변의 관심을 바라고 있으며, 타인의 욕구에 지나치게 민감하여 자신의 처지를 고려하지 않기도 한다는 점을 시사한다. 본 연구는 국내에 아직 연구가 저조한 성인 ADHD에 대한 연구라는 점, 성인 ADHD가 가진 대인관계문제에 대한 치료적 개입을 위한 지표가 될 수 있다는 점에서 그 의의가 크다.

Abstract

This study attempted to examine the relationship among adult ADHD, self-esteem, self-perception, and interpersonal problems. The study also attempted to examine the effects of self-esteem and self-perception on the relationship of adults with ADHD and interpersonal problems. The Korean Adult Young ADHD Questionnaire-Self-Report (K-YAQ-S), the self-esteem scale, the self-perception scale, and the Korean version of Interpersonal Problems Circumplex scales(IIP-C) were administered to 478 college students (male, 194; female, 284) in Chungchungbuk-do. For the analysis of data, a correlation among variables through a pair-wise correlation analysis was examined, and the effects among variables and the mediating effect were validated by a path analysis through a hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The major results of the study are as follows; first, there is a negative correlation between the scores of adult ADHD scales and self-esteem, and self-perception. Second, there is a positive correlation between the scores of adult ADHD scales and interpersonal problems. Third, the self-esteem is shown to partially mediate the scores of adult ADHD scales and interpersonal problems. The findings suggest that adults with ADHD tendency have a lower self-esteem and self-perception than those without ADHD tendency and have more difficulties with interpersonal problems than those who did not complain of ADHD symptoms, explaining that a low self-esteem exhibited by adults with ADHD tendency may be responsible for the problems on interpersonal relations. Adults with ADHD tendency were particularly more self-centered, have more difficulties expressing their own emotions, seek more attention from people around them at the same time, and are more sensitive to others’ desires, thus neglecting their own situation, than those without ADHD tendency. Lastly, the implications and limitations of study were discussed.
