신학적 주제로서 세족례의 신학적 의미와 중요성에 대한 건설적인 접근을 살펴보는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 본 연구는 두 가지 명백한 전제를 가지고 있다. 첫째는 세족례는 신뢰할만한 기독교 예식으로 풍성한 신학적 열매들을 만들어 낼 수 있다는 것이고 둘째는 예식으로서 세족례가 (물)세례와 성만찬을 이어주는 중요한 연결고리로 두 예식의 신학적 내용들을 강화한다는 사실이다. 그러므로, 본 연구는 예식과 신학적 주제로서 세족례의 본질과 의미를 살펴보며 또한 예수 그리스도의 진정한 힘과 정체성을 메시아적 종(servanthood) 에서 살펴보고자 한다. 게다가, 세족례를 통해 드러난 예수그리스도의 능력과 위엄을 종말론적 관점에서 올바르게 해석함으로 신자와 신앙공동체의 삶에 준 영향을 고찰하고자 한다. 이런 연고로 본 연구는 세족례를 신학적 주제로 하여 균형 잡힌 신학적 영향을 통해 종의 모습을 가진 메시아로서 주(servant-Lord)에 관한 더 적합하고 온당한 신학적 이해를 종말론적 관점에서 연구하고자 한다. 그러한 이유로 본 연구는 세족례와 세례와 성만찬 사이의 구별되는 신학적 차이점을 살펴보고 또한 동시에 새로운 신학적 발견을 겸손한 종의 모습과 함께 드러나는 그리스도의 주권과 하나님나라의 관점에서 그와 같은 그리스도의 삶에 동참을 요구받는 신자의 참여에 관한 이해를 세 예식의 관계를 연구함으로 살펴보고자 한다. 마지막으로, 본 연구는 앞으로 세족례에 관한 연구의 발전과 실천을 위한 미래 지향적인 신학적 방향과 궤도들을 제안한다.
Abstract
The goal of this study is to present the constructive approach to theological meaning and significance of footwashing as a theological subject in contemporary context. There are two obvious premises emerged in this subject matter: first, footwashing should be viewed as an authentic Christian sacrament in which rich theological fruits can be produced; and, second, footwashing as a sacrament can be a critical linkage among Baptism and Eucharist, and this theological cohesion has potential to enhance the theological aspects of both rituals (i.e,. Baptism and Eucharist). This study, thus, seeks to identify the nature and meaning of footwashing as both sacrament and theological subject, and it also shows how a messianic servant in this particular sacrament can be interpreted a true power and idenity of Jesus Christ. In addition, it .also provides the appropriate theological reflections for footwashing in a way of interpreting the true meaning of eschatological life in which Jesus Christ revealed his power and majesty in this particular event, and its impact needs to be reflected by the lives of both individual and community of faith (i.e., Church). On this line of thinking, this study attempts to explore footwashing as a theological subject for constructing a balanced theological implication for Jesus Christ life as a messianic servant-Lord that provides more adequate and suitable theological viewpoint of his identity in the context of eschatological aspect. In doing so, it deals with some distinct theological features of footwashing between baptism and eucharist, and, at the same time, it shares some new theological findings of the relationship between them for the purpose of establishing and revitalizing Christ’s Lordship with a humble servant and its request for an active participation of believers’ part in the light of God’s Kingdom. Finally, this study gives some conclusive thoughts which construe theological tasks with the directions and trajectory for the future development this particular subject matter in present time.
