Abstract
Although the parable of the Good Samaritan is short, it consists of a complete story in itself, so it can be interpreted independently of the Old Testament. Ezekiel chapter 34 is a text that says that God Himself will come as a shepherd. The Hebrew word for “to bind up” in Ezekiel 34, “חבש” is translated “καταδέω” in the Septuagint. The word “καταδέω” for “bind” is used only once in the New Testament, in the parable of the Good Samaritan. Therefore, the parable of the Good Samaritan is a parable introduced by Jesus with the image of the shepherd and the sheep of Ezekiel 34 in mind. Luke, who understood the intention of Jesus, the narrator, prepared a literary device to ensure that the parable of the Good Samaritan, a unique material of the Gospel of Luke, would be correctly interpreted. The literary device prepared by Luke is to link this parable with the story of the raising of the dead son of the widow of Nain and with the story of the coronation of the king at Bethany. The subject of both stories is Jesus, and Luke links this story with the parable of the Good Samaritan. Luke’s intention in linking the two stories with the parable of the Good Samaritan is to show that the central focus in the parable of the Good Samaritan should be Jesus Christ. If we accept this literary device used by Luke and focus the parable of the Good Samaritan on Jesus, it means that this parable must be interpreted Christologically.
