초록

The growing demand for renewable energy highlights the critical role of wind energy in achieving global decarbonization and climate resilience. This study investigated the current state and future direction in wind resource research and development in South Korea, with reference to the progress and activities of the IEA Wind TCP. The group emphasized the importance of expanding atmospheric measurement networks, advancing integrated modeling frameworks, and validating wind resource datasets to improve accuracy and reliability. In Korea, significant progress has been made in developing high-resolution wind resource maps using mesoscale-microscale coupling techniques to address the challenges of complex terrain. However, further efforts are needed to establish high-precision atmospheric monitoring systems, develop integrated models not only onshore but also offshore wind applications, conduct extensive resource validations across diverse terrains, and improve the accessibility and usability of national reference datasets in wind industry. These advancements would contribute to accelerating wind energy deployment and improving the maintenance efficiency of wind energy systems.
