텍스트 마이닝을 활용한 기후변화에 대한 20년간의 뉴스 기사 분석

이 연구는 2001년부터 2020년까지 지난 20년간 국내 인터넷 매체를 통해 보도된 기후변화 관련 뉴스 기사 7,516건을 추출하고, 이를 시기에 따라 주요 특징이나 주제가 무엇인지 파악하도록 워드 클라우드 및 토픽 모델링을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 뉴스 기사의 경우, 2009년 이후 급격히 증가하고 있는데 이는 기후변화에 대한 미디어의 노출이 UN 국제기후변화협약을 중심으로 강조됨에 따라 일어난 결과로 보인다. 특히, 기후변화에 대한 보도가 일반적인 종합일간지나 언론사가 아니라 경제 분야 및 지역신문에서 매우 높게 나타나는데 이는 기후변화와 관련된 글로벌 마켓, 기술 도입에 따른 경제적 파급효과 등이 뉴스의 중심 내용이 되며, 지자체의 기후변화와 관련된 여러 활동들이 지역 언론을 통해 소개되고 있음을 추측할 수 있다. 보다 구체적인 기후변화와 관련된 뉴스의 특징을 파악하기 위해 LDA 분석을 실시한 결과, 총 14개의 주제로 구분되며 각각의 주제는 시기에 따라 큰 변화를 보이고 있음을 알 수 있다. 특히, 2009년의 덴마크, 2015년의 파리에서의 UN 기후변화협약과 탄소정보공개 프로젝트(CDP) 등 범정부적인 협약과 기술개발 프로젝트 등이 뉴스 기사의 비중에 매우 큰 영향을 차지하고 있다. 국내 지자체의 활동이나 기업 활동에 대한 기사는 최근 들어 더욱 빈번하게 나타나고 있으며, 미디어를 통해 보도되는 내용이 기후변화와 관련된 연구 성과보다는 주요 행사나 사건 등에 대해 더욱 민감하게 반응하고 있음을 나타내고 있다.
Abstract
This study aimed at investigating the trends of new articles related to the climate change for the last two decades. Thus, the researchers collected a total of 7,516 articles extracted from the new archive called as BIGKinds and analyzed word-count-based analysis and topic modeling relying on LDA (latent dirichlet allocation). As a result, the number of articles about the climate change has been drastically increased since 2009, as UN climate change conference (UNCC) held in Denmark was sensational. In particular, economic and domestic-oriented press occupied a large proportion of articles, and financial and political aspects of the climate change were highlighted from the media. The optimization of LDA returned a total of 14 topics and the prevailing topics were varied across time. International events such as UNCC in Copenhagen and Paris and carbon disclosure project were much influential than other topics in the climate change. Recent news articles address enterprise activities and provincial events. The topics of climate change introduced in the media was responding to the stimulating events rather than research outcomes or academic information.
