Abstract

Due to limited land and the limitations of the development of ground resources, the importance of the ocean increases, and as territorial disputes among the surrounding countries endlessly take place in order to secure the territorial waters, interests in the introduction of a marine cadastre is heightened. Thus, this paper carried out an analysis of related institutions to introduce a marine cadastre. Especially, it carried out an analysis on the information and research items the marine-related institutions produce for the introduction of a marine cadastre, examined the necessity of a multi-purpose marine cadastre system taking the characteristics of the ocean, and summarized the ranges and rights of various maritime boundaries. In addition, through the examples of the U.S. marine cadastre systems, it proposed the necessity of the introduction of the marine cadastre system fitting the domestic circumstances and that of the operations of marine cadastre working groups mainly composed of marine cadastre-related institutions. In conclusion, as the importance of territorial waters is increasing, an early introduction of a marine cadastre system through the introduction of conference groups and working groups with the related institutions is necessary.
