지적장애인의 나이 들어감(Aging)의 경험에 관한 탐색적 연구

이 연구는 지적장애인들의 나이 들어감의 현상을 알아보고자 했다. 이 연구에서는 지역사회에서 거주하는 지적장애인의 나이 들어감의 경험이 탐색되었으며, 지적장애인을 주요 연구참여자로 하되, 자료의 충분성을 높이고자 가족과 그룹 홈의 재활교사, 활동보조인을 보완적으로 인터뷰하여 현상이해를 높이고자 하였다. 도출된 연구결과는 다섯 개의 주제로, ‘이른 노화, 몸과 마음을 파고듦’, ‘일상적인 분리와 편견으로 홀로 남겨짐’, ‘나이 들어간다는 것: 결혼할 나이가 됨, 죽음에 대한 두려움, 그리고 나이 들어감에 대한 몰이해’, ‘지금 이 순간의 행복감, 그리고 바램으로’, ‘가족의 삶에서 분리된 거주시설에서의 삶을 생각함’ 등을 경험하는 것으로 분석되었다. 이 연구는 탐색적 연구의 한계를 갖는다 할지라도, 지적장애인의 나이 들어감의 경험을 그들의 관점에서 들여다봄으로써 지적장애인의 나이 들어감에 대한 이해 및 관련 연구의 기초 자료로서 그 함의가 크다.
Abstract
This study aimed to explore the experiences to be old of people with intellectual disabilities. in community. The study used a qualitative research method: the people with intellectual were selected from recommendations of independent living centers of the disabilities and group homes, and interviewed using the individual interview methods. In addition, their families, teachers of group home and personal assistants were interviewed to complement interviews of people with intellectual disabilities in community. This study is composed with the main participants of people with intellectual disabilities and complementary interviewers for plentiful dates and to deeply understand this phenomenon. According to the results, the following main themes were extracted from the experiences of people getting old with intellectual disabilities who live in community:‘Earlier aging penetrated on body and mind’,‘Who remain still lonely due to daily separation and stigma’,‘Feeling of happiness at this moment and hopes', 'What to be getting old: becoming ages to get marriage, fear of the death, and lack of understanding about getting old', 'Thinking of lives into the disabled's residential facilities separated from lives with family'. The limitation of this study is as exploratory research. But the implication of this study results are for basic resource in understanding of their aging, policy making and the actual practices.
