정신장애인의 지원주거 경험 연구

초록

본 연구는 정신장애인의 탈시설과 자립생활을 위한 방안으로 새로운 주거 유형인 지원주거를 제시하고 정신장애인의 지원주거에서의 경험을 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 지원주거를 경험한 6명의 정신장애인을 심층면접하고 분석하였다. 분석 결과, ‘혼자 사는 자리로 떠밀림’, ‘동전의 양면과 같은 홀로서기’, ‘서로 붙들고 기대어 살아감’, ‘내 집에서 가꾸어 가는 나의 삶’이라는 4개의 주제군과 11개의 주제, 그리고 27개의 의미가 도출되었다. 본 연구에서 발견된 정신장애인의 지원주거 경험을 관통하는 가장큰 맥락은 ‘남’ 눈치 보는 삶에서 ‘내 집에서 가꾸어 가는 나의 삶’을 살게 된것이다. 주거시설과 고시원에서 남의 눈치를 보며 살아가던 연구참여자들은 지원주거에서의 생활을 통하여 더 이상 남의 눈치를 보지 않고 살 수 있게 되었으며, 나아가 적극적으로 ‘내 집’으로 가꾸어가는 모습을 볼 수 있었다. 연구참여자들은 지원주거에서 생활하는 과정에서, 자신의삶에 책임감을 강하게 느끼며 일상에서 작은 문제를 해결해 가고 생활과 감정을 조절하는등, 자립을 위한 여러 능력을 다지게 되었다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 정신장애인 지원주거 실현을 위한 제언을 하였다.

Abstract

The study focuses on the concept of 'supported housing' as an alternative for people with mental illnesses who are deinstitutionalized and are living independently and explores the experience of these people undergoing supported housing used qualitative methods. This study employs in-depth, semi-structured interviews among six people with mental illnesses to explore their experiences with the program and analyzed the contents of the interviewees and the interviews' contents. The findings concludes five essential themes: 'pushed back to live independently', 'two sides of independent living', 'living by lean on each others', 'my life making in my home: solidifying with the abilities of sustaining an independent living'. The most important conclusion that stuck with the participants' experiences was 'being cautious of their surroundings' to 'making it my home'. During the 'having a sense of home that is truly theirs' and 'solidifying with the abilities of sustaining an independent living'. The study discuss implications of the result for policies and practices.
