Abstract
The paradigm of family therapy is constantly changing in drift of the postmodernism. One of the objectives of this paper is to describe the influence of the postmodernism and social constructionism on the development and changes in theory and paradigm of family therapy. To my knowledge, the first-order family therapy has been directed and guided, methodologically, by the therapist's pre-formulated hypothesis, unlike the approach of social constructionism, which is advanced by the vocal collaboration between the therapist and the client. A social constructive family therapy is closely related to the linguistic characteristic in terms of a dynamic paradigm. In fact, this implies that a characteristic of social constructionism is of so called ‘not-knowing posture’ at dialogue and quest which lead the client to the new meaning of individual life. The medium of the proceedings to social constructionism is the language of a life history the client. It is interesting to note that the not-knowing posture method arouses to the therapist a curiosity about his or her client. In this study the nature and application of a linguistic characteristic has been discussed in the context of social constructive family therapies, and also in references to the solution focused approach, narrative therapy, polyvocal collaborations. The following three findings are significant and noteworthy: 1) the transition from the cybernetics to the interpretive model; 2) the transformation of intervention and control into a new story through a therapeutic conversation; and 3) the transition from professional specialist into a collaborative participant in the dialogue.
