Abstract

This study aimed at validating the Korean Version of the Counseling Climate Questionnaire(CCQ) which assesses clients' perceived autonomy support by counselors in counseling based on Health Care Climate Questionnaire (Williams et al., 1996). In study 1, the original scale(Williams et al., 1996) were translated into Korean, and retranslated into English, which yielded 15 preliminary items. The result from the exploratory factor analysis and item analysis showed 2 factor-structure('psychological needs support attitude' and 'confirmation and question encouraging behavior') of the scale, differing from the result of Williams et al(1996) which reported 1 factor-structure of the scale. In study 2, 2 factor-structure of the scale was supported by the confirmatory factor analysis with structural equation modeling, and the scale showed high reliability and validity. But the result from the correlation analysis between basic psychological needs of clients and the clients' perceived psychological needs support showed the highest correlation with relatedness, which implied measurement of the scale reflected clients' perceived relatedness support of counselors. Theoretical and clinical implications of the findings were discussed along with the limitation and suggestions for further research.
