어머니의 정서표현 양가성이 남녀 유아의 문제행동에 미치는 영향: 어머니의 자녀에 대한 정서수용태도의 매개효과

본 연구에서는 자녀의 정서표현에 대한 어머니의 정서수용태도가 어머니의 정서표현 양가성과 유아의 문제행동 간의 관계에 매개적 역할을 하는지 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해, 서울시 및 경기도와 경상남도 창원시에 위치한 4개의 유치원과 3개의 어린이집에 재원 중인 만 3～5세 유아를 둔 어머니 261명을 대상으로 어머니의 정서표현 양가성 척도(AEQ), 어머니의 정서수용태도 척도, 유아 행동평가척도(K-CBCL 1.5-5) 설문지를 실시하여 자료를 수집하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 연구변인의 성별에 대한 차이는 나타나지 않았고, 어머니의 정서수용태도는 만 3세 유아보다 만 5세 유아에게 더욱 통제적인 반응을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 남녀 유아 모두에게서 어머니의 정서표현 양가성과 어머니의 정서수용태도는 정적 상관을 나타냈다. 그러나 어머니의 정서수용태도는 남아의 문제행동과는 정적 상관을 나타냈으나 여아의 문제행동과는 유의미한 상관을 나타내지 않았다. 셋째, 어머니의 정서수용태도는 어머니의 정서표현 양가성과 남아의 외현화 문제행동에서는 완전 매개효과를, 내재화 문제행동에서는 부분 매개효과를 나타냈다. 본 연구결과의 시사점과 제한점을 논의하였다.

Abstract

The aim of this stusy is to investigate whether maternal attitudes toward preschoolers' expressiveness on the relation between mother's ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and preschoolers' problem behaviors. We conducted the following surveys; Ambivalence over Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire (AEQ), Mother's Attitudes toward Children's Expressiveness Scale, and Korea-Child Behavior Checklist 1.5-5 (K-CBCL 1.5-5), on 261 mothers with 3 to 5 year-olds attending one of 4 kindergartens and 3 child care centers located in either Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, or Changwon-si in Gyeongsangnam-do. The following results are derived from our analysis: First, the main effects of gender for research variables were not significant. And the main effects of age for maternal attitudes toward preschoolers; expressiveness were significant. So, controlled response was observed in more 5-year-olds than 3-year-olds. Second, the mother's ambivalence over emotional expressiveness has a significant relation on the mother's attitude towards children's expressiveness for all preschoolers and the mother's attitude toward children's expressiveness has a significant relation on preschoolers' problem behaviors only for boys. Third, the mother's attitude toward preschoolers' expressiveness functioned fully as a mediator in the relations between the mother's ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and her preschooler's externalizing problem behaviors, and functioned partially as a mediator in the relations between the mother's ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and her preschooler's internalizing problem behaviors only for boys. The implications and limitations of this study were further discussed.
