성인의 전생애적 진로만족 연구: 생애주기별 사회인지진로변인과 삶의 만족에 대한 메타분석

초록

평생직장의 개념이 사라지고 고령화시대에 들어서면서 개인이 진로에 대해 고민하는 시기가 성인기 전반으로 확장되었다. 이러한 시대적 상황과 맞물려 개인의 진로를 직업뿐 만 아니라 삶의 전 영역에 걸친 다양한 개념으로 규정하는 관점(Gysbers, 1996)이 더욱 중요해졌다. 이에 본 연구에서는 전생애적 진로만족을 ‘생애주기별 삶의 만족의 총체’로서 정의하고, 메타분석을 통해 성인의 생애주기별 삶의 만족과 관련된 사회인지진로 변인들을 추출해 내고 그 중요도를 비교하였다. 1994년도부터 2013년도까지 한국인의 삶의 만족에 대해 연구한 학술지 논문 및 학위 논문 총116편을 Wilson(2001)이 개발한 Effect Size Determination Program을 적용하여 분석하고 산출된 685개의 평균 효과크기를 비교하였다. 분석한 값들을 통합사회인지진로이론(Lent & Brown, 2008)의 범주로 나눠 범주별 효과크기를 살펴본 결과, 자기효능감 범주가 전생애 삶의 만족에 가장 큰 효과크기를 갖는 것으로 나타났다(ESZ=.82). 다음으로 결과기대, 상황적 정서, 성격 및 정서특질 범주가 중간수준의 효과크기를 보였다(.50≦ESZ≦.80). 자기효능감 범주의 하위변인을 생애주기별로 살펴보면, 탐색기(20대)에서는 자존감, 자율성이, 확립기(30-40대)에서는 생성감, 효능감이, 그리고 유지기(50-60대 이상)에서는 자존감과 효능감이 그 시기의 삶의 만족에 대한 매우 큰 설명요인임을 확인하였다. 이는 전생애 삶의 만족과 가장 관련성이 높은 ‘자기효능감 범주’가 생애주기별로 각각 다른 하위변인들과의 관련성을 중심으로 이뤄져있음을 의미한다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 논의에서는 구체적인 생애주기별 특징을 비교분석하고 이론적, 실용적 함의를 제시한 뒤, 추후 연구 방향에 대한 제언과 함께 본 연구의 한계점을 제시하였다.

Abstract

As the concept of ‘lifetime workplace’ disappears and we enter the aging times, the period one ponders on career has expandede to general adulthood. Along with this conditions of the time, defining one's career as various concepts to general areas of life has become more important (Gysbers, 1996). Thus, the current study defined lifetime career satisfaction as ‘The accumulation of life satisfaction from each stages of adult lifecycle’, used meta-analysis to extract sociocognitive variables related to stages of lifecycle of adults, and compared its importance. 116 published journals and theses/dissertations on satisfaction of life were collected and analyzed applying Wilson’s Effect Size Determination Program (2001), and then compared the average effect size of the 685 variables. Dividing the values by the categories of Sociocognitive Career Theory (Lent & Brown, 2008) and observing the effect size of each category, self-efficacy category showed the largest effect size on lifelong satisfaction of life (ESZ=.82).Next, result expectation, conditional emotion, personality and emotional property showed medium effect size (.50≦ESZ≦.80). Looking at the sub-variables of self-efficacy category by life cycle stages, self-esteem and autonomy was a significant explanation factor at exploration stage, as productiveness and efficacy on establishment stage, and self-esteem and efficacy on maintenance stage. This implies that ‘self-efficacy category’, which has the highest relevance to satisfaction of life, is composed of the relationship between the different sub-variables at each life stage. Based on the results, specific characteristics in each life stage were analyzed in discussion. Theoretical and practical implications were also suggested along with limitations of the current study and suggestions for future studies.
