Abstract
This study investigated the effect of social support, core beliefs challenges, and deliberate or intrusive rumination on Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and Post-traumatic Growth among college students who experienced Po-hang earthquake which occurred on November 15, 2017. Data were collected from the questionnaire six months after the earthquake, and a total of 257 samples were analyzed after excluding inconsistent responses. The result of hierarchical regression analysis after controlling for sex, age, and religion showed that the more intrusive rumination and core beliefs changes and the less social support, the more significantly the PTSD was predicted. It was more descriptive in the order of intrusive rumination, core beliefs changes, and social support. Regarding Post-traumatic Growth, the more deliberate rumination and core beliefs changes and the more social support, the more significantly the PTG was predicted. It was more descriptive in the order of core beliefs changes, intrusive rumination and social support. Based on these results, we suggested that psychological interventions addressing rumination styles and core beliefs challenges are needed for people who experienced Po-hang earthquake and are in need of psycho-social resources. Finally, we discussed the limitations and future directions of this study.
