중년여성의 부모화 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

본 연구는 기혼 중년 여성의 부모화 경험에 대한 본질적 구조를 탐색하고자 중년여성들의 부모화 경험이 어떠하며, 어떠한 의미를 갖는지 알아보고자 시행된 현상학 연구이다. 연구 참여자들은 부모화를 경험한 기혼 중년 여성 6명을 선정하여 심층인터뷰를 통해 자료를 수집하고, 자료 분석 및 글쓰기의 절차로 진행되었다. 분석 결과, 중년여성들의 부모화 경험에서 “가족 내 무언의 요구를 나의 것으로 받아들임”으로 해서 “돌보는 역할이 온전히 나의 몫이 됨”을 알 수 있었다. 또한 홀로 감당해야하는 어려움으로 인해 “요동치는 감정의 파도를 홀로 버텨냄”과 동시에 내가 없다는 정체성 위기와 혼란을 거치며 “삶의 자리를 스스로 일구어 감”이라는 주제를 확인할 수 있었다. 부모화 경험과 이로 인한 정체성의 위기를 겪는 중년여성들의 상담적 개입을 위해서는, 그들 자신과의 대면을 통해 자신을 있는 그대로 수용하고 스스로의 기대와 욕구를 찾는 등의 노력을 통해 주체적인 삶으로의 변환을 돕고, 가족들과의 관계에서도 건강한 분리를 통해 적응적인 관계를 경험하도록 돕는 것이 필요할 것이다.
Abstract
The present phenomenological study is to investigate the fundamental structure of parentification of Korean married mid-aged women, concerning their experiences of parentification and its meanings to their living. Six married mid-aged women with the experiences of parentification participated in the study. The data were obtained from the in-depth interviews with the participants, and data analysis and writing were proceeded. As results, parentification of the Korean mid-aged women was characterized by the conclusion that the care of family becomes wholly their portion by accepting the tacit requirements of family as their responsibility. Also, they have endured alone their churning emotions, experiencing identity crisis by perceiving “My non-existence, and dealt with their own livings by themselves”. For counseling intervention for the mid-aged women suffering from the identity crisis due to their experiences of parentification, it would be necessary to help them accept themselves as they face themselves and convert their lives to more independent by the efforts searching for their own expectations and desires, and let them experience the adaptive relationship with family members by proper separation.
