Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the sequential dual mediation paths of internalized shame and interpersonal problems in the impact of childhood trauma experiences on social anxiety in adults. To achieve this, data were collected using trauma experience scales, social anxiety scales, internalized shame scales, and interpersonal problems scales from 218 adults aged in their 20s to 50s residing in Seoul. Statistical analysis of the collected data was performed using the PROCESS Macro(model=6). The main research results are as follows: First, the total effect of childhood trauma experiences on social anxiety was statistically significant. Second, internalized shame and interpersonal problems were found to sequentially mediate the relationship between childhood trauma experiences and social anxiety. This study provided theoretical implications that complement the limitations of existing single mediation models by examining the dual pathways of emotion and behavior from a multidimensional perspective in the process of forming social anxiety after trauma experiences, along with practical insights for designing intervention strategies in actual counseling settings.
