Abstract
This study reconceptualized disturbances in self-organization, the core pathology of complex PTSD (C-PTSD), as deep disruptions in the self-system rather than as symptom clusters, and explored practical therapeutic directions for counseling. C-PTSD, caused by repeated interpersonal trauma, leads to impairments in self-organization function, which manifests as emotional dysregulation, negative self-concept and relationship difficulties. This study conceptualized this phenomenon as a failure of neurobiological regulation and a disconnection from subjective self-experience. In particular, using predictive processing theory, this study interpreted structural dissociation and self-alienation in C-PTSD as persistent prediction errors and rigid hyper-priors. Through this perspective, the study proposed a new interpretive framework for C-PTSD pathology. Furthermore, this study emphasized that therapy should aim to restore self-organizing capacities rather than merely reduce symptoms, positioning counselors as neurobiological regulators and intersubjective co-regulators who help clients regain bodily and relational safety. This study is meaningful in that it presents an integrative treatment model for C-PTSD that connects theoretical understanding with practical interventions applicable in clinical and counseling settings.
