Abstract
The surface sediments collected from the various positions of the Lake Shihwa were analysed using ICPAES to get the information of the spatial distribution of heavy metal. The sample treatment using a high pressure acid digestion was optimized, in which about 0.025-0.03 g of sample powder was dissolved in the 10 ml acid mixture of nitric acid, HF, and sulfuric acid with the ratio of 3:1:1 (v/v). The recovery of 90% to 103% for the certified reference material, MESS-2 (CRM of National Research Council, Canada), was obtained using the optimized method. For the analytical result of the sediments, the concentrations of Al and Fe in the sediments were in the range of 4.2%-8.8%, 2.6 %-5.1%, respectively, and didn't depend upon the sampling position. In contrary, the concentration of Cu, Cr and Zn, which were obtained about 50-900 μg/g, were varied significantly, depending on the sampling point.
