심리적 기제분석을 통한 정서적 능력에 대한 재해석 - 신사임당의 사례를 중심으로 -

본 연구는 심리적 기제관점에서 신사임당이 발휘한 정서적 능력의 특징을 평가하고 전 생애에 걸쳐 그 능력이 계발되는 과정을 분석해내는 전기적 연구이다. 신사임당의 정서적 생애사에 심리적 기제분석의 틀을 적용하면 사람과의 관계중심에서 나타나는 정서차원, 인지차원, 그리고 행동차원의 상호작용 양상에 따라 크게 네 개의 분기로 구분할 수 있다. 첫 번째 시기는 외조부모와 부모와의 관계가 중심을 이루는 신사임당의 유년기에 해당하는 시기로, 고유한 지적·정서적 색깔이 싹트기 시작하는 정서의 인식·표현능력의 토대기이다. 두 번째는 남편과 시어머니와의 관계가 중심을 이루는 결혼 초기의 시기로, 자신보다 부족한 남편을 지각하고 받아들임으로써 그를 학문의 길로 인도하는 역할과 경제적으로도 무능한 남편 덕에 모든 가정살림을 도맡게 되는 시기이다. 때문에 이 시기는 신사임당이라는 한 사람의 역량발달의 측면에서는 부정적인 정서가 주류를 이루는 정서능력의 제한적 발달기로 구분 지을 수 있다. 세 번째 시기는 이율곡을 포함하여 4남 3녀 자녀와의 관계맺음이 가장 주류를 이루고 친정에 두고 온 어머니를 그리워하는 결혼 후기의 시기로 일곱 자녀의 양육을 도맡으면서 그동안 자신의 학문과 예술에 몰두하던 시간과 열정이 자녀양육으로 옮겨가는 전형적인 멘토적 삶으로의 전환점을 맞이하게 되는 정서능력의 제한적 점화기이다. 네 번째는 신사임당의 지적·정서적 역량이 그녀의 표현능력과 예술적 회화세계와 융합되어 문화적 창조성으로 표출된 업적을 매개로 재해석된 부분이다. 이 시기는 평범한 그 시대의 여성들처럼 가정주부로서의 삶에만 치우친 불균형적인 삶을 추구하기 보다는 현실생활과 절충하고 친정어머니를 그리는 시를 지으며 띄엄띄엄 창조적 작업의 명맥을 유지하는 정서능력의 통합발전기이다.
Abstract
This study investigated the development of Shin, Sa-im-dang's emotional abilities using biographical method on the events of her lives. In this study, on top of the personality characteristics and emotional aspects of the individuals, her emotional strengths were analyzed on the basis of the emotional intelligence theory. Through analyzing the development of Shin, Sa-im-dang's emotional ability in relation to her critical life events, the four aspects of her development of emotional ability have been revealed. The findings of the study are as follows. First, is her childhood when she had the most of the time with her parents and maternal grandparents. In this period her personal relationship with this family members forms her unique “the basis period of emotional perception․expression”. Second, is the earlier years of her marriage. In this period her relationship lies mostly with her husband and mother-in-law. There she realizes and accepts her incompetent husband so to lead him to a study meanwhile devoting herself into a make the living of the family. Thus, this is the period when her negative emotions had overwhelmed her life, “the developing, yet restrictive, period of emotional ability”. Third, is the time of her motherhood. Along with Lee, Yul-gok, the third son, her relationships with her four boys and three girls were most affective to her emotional ability. Longing mother at home herself, she transfers her time and passion on her studying and art into raising and teaching her seven children. Turning point as a mentor's life, “the reinforcement, yet restrictive, period of emotional ability”. And the last, is the times when Shin, Sa-im-dang's intellectual and emotional competence had harmonized with her ability of expression and work of art and to be revealed as cultural masterpieces. Her life, at overall, had not only focused on housewife's life yet managed to compromising with the reality by writing poets of her mother time to time, to keep up the life of a creator. This is, so as to define, “the integration developing period of emotional ability”.
