Abstract

This study aims to examine the antecedents of the leader emergence in project teams. We empirically investigate the effects of sex, age, preference for group work, achievement motivation, and self efficacy on leader emergence, based on the analysis of the data from 349 students. The results are as follows. Age, sex, preference for group work, achievement motivation, and self efficacy are positively associated with leader emergence. Furthermore, In the self-evaluation, cognitive factors(preference for group work, achievement motivation, and self efficacy) have a stronger impact on the leader emergence. In the other-evaluation, however, demographic factors(age and sex) have a stronger impact on the leader emergence. Implications of the research findings are discussed, and recommendation for future research are provided.
