초록

This study examined the impact of MOOC-based small group learning on EFL university students’ English-speaking ability and perceptions of self-directed learning ability. 76 South Korean university students and 19 international students who expressed interest in MOOC learning were selected. The experimental group consisted of 38 South Korean and 19 international students, while the control group included 38 South Korean students. The MOOC learning program was conducted weekly for 15 weeks, with pre- and post-assessments. The results indicated that the experimental group demonstrated a significantly greater improvement in English speaking abilities compared to the control group. Additionally, the experimental group showed a higher improvement in self-directed learning perceptions than the control group. However, no significant changes were found in the areas of self-attachment to learning. The findings suggest that MOOC-based small group learning is effective for improving English-speaking abilities and perceptions of self-directed learning abilities, though further research is needed on its impact across different learning styles.
