Abstract
This study focuses on examining Edith Stein’s theory without being biased toward one side of the Jewish–Catholic Church, highlighting the Jewish-ism inherent in the philosopher Stein’s idea. I first look at Stein and find out how her life and philosophical thought are unveiled through her autobiography entitled “In the Life of a Jewish Family.” Stein’s autobiography is important in this article because her book, which was started with the writing of the preface on September 21, 1933, was completed in 1939. On October 14, 1933, about a month after writing the preface to the book, she joined the Carmel Society in Cologne as a nun. This is believed to have been an opportunity for Stein to boldly respond to Nazi activities to exterminate Jewish bloodlines, as she began writing the book with the intention of revealing the affection and pride of the Jewish community through her autobiography while already being part of Carmel. Stein’s autobiography is thought to be a meaningful book in the sense that through it, Stein researchers can more clearly understand her life and values that are not biased toward Catholicism or Judaism. Therefore, it is believed that Stein aimed to connect Christianity and Jews with “open eyes,” as she believed in God’s salvation and its attainment through Christianity. I hope to become as prominent as the philosopher Edith Stein.
