Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal the characteristics of the lyrical structure realized in short creative fairy tales by Kang So-chun. Despite the fact that Kang So-chun made full use of various formal strategies in order to realize lyricism in creative fairy tales, the evaluation of him focused on his themes and content levels. Based on this recognition, this article aims to investigate the aesthetic features that he established through his works. Lyrical structures are formal techniques for realizing lyricism and consistently maintained features in short creative fairy tales by Kang So-chun. In order to consider this, this study examined the character of creative fairy tales from the perspective of genre theory and surveyed the occurrence background and ideological influence of creative fairy tales based on fantasy. The essence of lyricism is characterized by reducing the distance between subject and object or self and object and aiming mutual integration. Short creative fairy tales by Kang So-chun express various lyrical structures to realize this. This study enabled us to examine distinctive aspects by categorizing it to three features as follows:First, lyricism is emphasized using monologue techniques in 「Soonam and Soonam」 and 「You Were Me」. They show features that the process of self-recognition is developed by monologue while the narrative perspective focuses on the inner world. Second, the setting of symbolic space and internalization are realized in 「In the Boat Home」 and 「The Country My Mother Passed away」. They aim for a primitive and ideal utopia and show appearances to internalize this by arranging a fantasy space as a symbolic space. Third, the recognition process of lyrical main character is expressed in 「Floral Shoemaker」 and 「A Portrait of My Mother」. Lyrical main character is characterized by recognizing objects and conclude as unity through internal perceptions rather than resistance behavior. Thus, the aesthetic world of short creative fairy tales by Kang So-chun was realized by various forms of lyrical structures. This study focused on the fact that this is a result of his literary thinking in his tireless efforts to perceive creative fairy tales as formal and aesthetic levels beyond thematic level.
