Abstract

This thesis analyzes an original view of the world and the internal structure of children’s poems by Yun Dong-joo. He conveys a sense of a pure spirit to his readers with his children’s poems. This original view of the world and internal structure are common to his children’s poems as well as to other poetry written by him. The second chapter explores how his children’s poems discuss the loss of family along with a longing for reconciliation and deals with issues of separation and loss. The subject matter in these poems relates to the poignant experiences of people in the colonial era. A yearning for lost friends and dead family members forms the core idea of his children’s poems. The third chapter eulogizes the original and pure form of nature as discussed in his children’s poems. Yun Dong-joo’s children’s poems stimulate imaginative powers with Nature. His poems espouse the concept that the purity of human life is regained when the purity of Nature is recovered. The fourth chapter elaborates how his children’s poems aim towards a fantasy world and peace gained through transcendence. He explains that transcendence from weary days is connected to fantasy. He elaborates further that fantasy is important and embodies the inner structure of peace. Yun Dong-joo’s children’s poems represent his entire work and are heavily imbued with meaning. They pave the way to understanding the rest of Yun Dong-joo’s poetry. It is my sincere wish that Yun Dong-joo’s children’s poems are considered more meaningfully by the world.
