Abstract
We investigated the effect of the trap profile in a unipolar device structure with an organic semiconductor. Tocontrol the trap profile, we fabricated hole-only devices (HODs) doped with a molecules with higher highestoccupied molecular orbital (HOMO) level to embed traps. The current-voltage characteristics of fabricated HODwith various doping profiles were compared with simulation results made by the drift-diffusion model based onthe finite element method. It was confirmed that the trap energy depth expected by UPS analysis was matched wellwith simulation results, and it was verified that trap energy depth and density could be extracted from the HODdevice. It is expected that this simulation technique can be used to extract characteristic parameters of trap levelsthat are difficult to measure in actual devices. We believe this study contributes to the broader understanding oftrap-related phenomena in organic optoelectronic devices, enabling device engineers and researchers to optimizethe design and operation of these advanced optoelectronic devices.
