21세기 <신몽금척(新夢金尺)> 안무를 위한 시론: 금척(金尺)설화의 중층성과 현대적 의미 분석을 중심으로

Abstract

The purposes of this study are first, to first understand the origin of the musical theory of, and the multi-faceted meanings of <Monggeumchuk>, and second, to introduce a more modern interpretation of the 21st century <New Monggeumchuk> in the creation of an original choreography. In this effort, a systematic research was conducted, first with an in-depth analysis of the Docham philosophy and the tale of Geumchekwon, and second, discovering and understanding the modern meanings of the 21st century <New Monggeumchuk>. In the early Joseon Dynasty, Geumchuk in <Monggeumchuk> symbolized one's privilege, or the right to be the King, but today‘s Geumchuk can be interpreted as each individual's sovereign rights, and at the same time, symbolize one's intrinsic value of existence. As a result, the 21st century <New Monggeumchuk> reflects this shift in interpretation of Geumchuk via changes first in the ranks, second in the lyrics(唱詞, 口號), third in the instruments, and finally in the costumes. To accomplish this, it is important to understand and cherish Jeongjae across modern generations, and to continue to re-discover it within a modern context based on profound understanding of its multifaceted meanings. It is the opinion of the author(s) of this study that such efforts will not only allow for the next-level understanding and interpretation of Jeongjae, but also open doors for opportunities to expand its essence across the globe.
