연구목적: 본 연구는 국내 무용학에서 질적연구의 발전과 그 함의를 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구방법: 이를 위해 본 연구는 1990년대 초반부터 2024년까지 발표된 무용학 분야의 질적연구 논문을 분석하였다. 연구자료는 학술 검색 데이터베이스를 통해 수집된 총 395편의 논문 중, 질적연구의 속성을 명확히 드러낸 147편의 논문으로 최종 선정하였다. 이를 바탕으로 무용학에서 질적연구가 어떻게 발전해 왔는지 그 역사적 흐름을 심층적으로 탐구하였다. 연구결과: 첫째, 1990년대부터 현재까지 국내 무용학에서 질적연구는 꾸준히 증가하였으며, 시대적 배경에 따라 연구의 주제와 접근법이 다양화되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 특히 1990년대는 ‘태동기’, 2000년대는 ‘발전기’, 2010년대는 ‘심화기’, 2020년대는 ‘확장기’의 특성을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 국내 무용학 질적연구의 역사적 발전은 단순한 연구 방법론을 뛰어넘어 다층적인 의미를 갖는 것으로 확인되었다. 결론: 국내 무용학에서 질적연구는 시대를 거치며 다양한 연구전통과 방법론을 통해 지속적으로 발전해 왔다. 무용학 연구방법론의 다양화 및 확장, 현장 연구의 강화, 글로벌 및 문화적 융합 연구를 제안한다.
Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to examine the development and implications of qualitative research in Korean dance studies. Methods: This study analyzed qualitative research articles on dance studies published from the early 1990s to 2024. From 395 articles collected through academic search databases, 147 articles containing qualitative characteristics were selected to examine the development of qualitative research. Results: First, it was found that qualitative research in Korean dance studies has steadily increased from the 1990s to the present, and research topics and approaches have diversified according to the background of the times. In particular, the 1990s was characterized as the ‘embryonic period’, the 2000s as the ‘developmental period’, the 2010s as the ‘deepening period’, and the 2020s as the ‘expansionary period’. Second, the historical development of qualitative research in Korean dance studies was found to have multi-layered implications beyond simple research methodologies. Conclusion: Qualitative research in Korean dance studies has been continuously developed through various research traditions and methodologies over time.
