전통춤 공연에서의 관객 공간 경험에 관한 연구 -한옥 휘겸재를 중심으로

연구목적: 본 연구는 특정 공간으로 확장된 전통춤 공연에서 관객이 경험하는 공간을 체계적으로 고찰하고자 한다. 연구방법: 본 연구는 Stake(1995)의 본질적 사례연구방법을 사용하여 휘겸재에서 공연한 『춤, 레트로에 빠지다』를 관람한 관객 7명을대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하고 참여 관찰을 병행하였다. 연구결과: 첫째, ‘공감 감응과 에너지의 전이’의 측면에서 관객은 한옥의 구조에 의한 에너지의 응축·확산을 경험하였다. 둘째, ‘시간 지각의 변화’의 측면에서 관객은 몰입과 공간의 전환에 따라 시간이 빠름/느림/정지 등 다양한 차원으로 지각했다. 셋째, ‘관계적 상호작용’의 측면에서관객은 공연자 및 공간과의 연계 강화에 따른 공동체적 공감을 체험하였다. 넷째, ‘정서적 공명과 몰입’의 측면에서 관객은 공연에 대한 몰입과 기억 환기가 강화되었다. 마지막으로, ‘기획과 연출의 맥락적 통합’의 측면에서 시대적 맥락과 공간의 연출이결합되어 관객들에게 공감적 시대감을 형성하였으며, 앞의 네 가지 구성요소와 맞물려 관객 경험의 전반을 조율하는 작용을 하였다. 결론: 이러한 연구 결과는 전통춤 공연의 기획·연출과 공간 구성 및 관객 참여 방식을 적용함으로써 전통춤을 관객과 함께만들어가는 동시대적 예술 실천으로 확장될 수 있음을 시사한다.
Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to systematically examine the spatial experiences that audiences perceive in traditional dance performances expanded into specific spaces. Methods: Employing Stake's (1995) essential case study method, this research conducted in-depth interviews with seven audience members who attended the performance 『Dance, Falling for Retro』 at Hwigyeomjae, supplemented by participant observation. Result: As a result, five components and 17 sub-components were derived. First, it is the transfer of empathy and energy. Second, it is immersion through changes in time perception. Third, it is relational interaction. Fourth, it is emotional resonance and immersion. Finally, it is the contextual integration of planning and production. Conclusion: These research findings suggest that traditional dance can be expanded into a contemporary artistic practice created together with the audience by applying approaches to planning and directing performances, spatial composition, and audience participation.
