This study examines the history and current status of Chinese stock market. Although the market has progressed from its earliest stage, there have been many interesting developments and more governmental policies are yet to come. In its present form, however, the stock market in China requires considerable remedial and urgent actions. Adjustments to the current market structure are critical and these need to be based on long-term plans. The conclusion of this study is that Chinese stock market requires the nurturing of profitable industry leaders as the core 'blue chip' stocks and eliminating many of existing satellite small and micro-sized stocks altogether.
