대륙별 메가 스포츠 이벤트 개최가 수출에 미치는 영향

본 연구논문은 대륙별 메가 스포츠 이벤트를 개최하는 것이 개최국의 수출량증가에 영향을 미친다는 것을 중력모형을 이용하여 실증 분석한 논문이다. 기존의 연구논문에서 확인한 세계 올림픽 개최의 수출량 증대 효과가 과연 대륙별 메가 스포츠 이벤트를 개최하는 데에서도 발견되는지를 실증적으로 분석하여 Rose & Spiegel (2011)에서 논의된 소위 스포츠 이벤트 개최의 ‘신호 효과’의 실재 여부에 대해서 검증하였다. 추가적으로 한국의 경우 1986년과 2002년 아시안 게임 개최와 1988년에 하계 세계 올림픽 개최가 수출량의 증대를 발생시킨 것으로 추정되어 한국의 경우에도 메가 스포츠 이벤트의 신호효과가 발생하고 있음을 실증적으로 관찰하였다.
Abstract
This paper examines the effect of regional mega sports events on exports of host countries, using gravity models. The previous study by Rose & Spiegel (2011) showed the positive effect of World Olympic Games on trade of host countries. We extended this idea to show so-called “signal effect” of mega sports events at the regional levels on host countries’export performances. In addition, we observed that the Korean exports has been positively affected by the series of Asian Game hosted in 1986and World Olympic Game in 1988, and the recent one, 2002 Asian Game as well.
