루이 14세 시대의 미뉴엣의 춤과 음악 사이에는 간극이 있다. 그 간극은 1) 춤 동작 단위와 음악의 단위가 동시에 시작하고 끝나지 않는 데에서, 2) 몸의 동작이 만들어내는 액센트와 음악의 액센트가 일치하지 않는 데에서, 3) 전체 동작의 길이와 음악의 길이가 같지 않다는 데에서 생겨난다. 그러나 이러한 간극은 춤과 음악이 만날 때 우연히 생겨나는 부수적인 것이 아니라 그것의 의미를 발생시키는 본원적이고 필수적인 것임이 드러난다.
Abstract
There are discrepancies between dance and music in the minuet of the court of Louis XIV. First, the beginning and ending of dance does not coincide with musical beginning and ending. Second, accents created by dance movement is not concordant with musical accent. Third and the last, the length of musical phrase is not matched to the dance's. These discrepancies, however, are not an accidental but the essential and necessary aspects of the minuet (or of the court dance), since those help to formulate the meaning of the dance-music.
