Abstract

Through invasions by Japan in 1592 and by China in 1636, The latter period of Joseon had been a practical science-idea (it reform social contradiction by the way of actual and realistic proof) and a school of bukhak(it insist on developing the commerce & industry and introducing products from Chung (China) for reforming reality of Joseon). Those stirred up national and historical consciousness, and it was the cultural basis of the latter period of Joseon. In this article, the latter period of Joseon divided into the 18th Century that was cultural peak (from Sookjong to Jungjong) and the 19th Century that it were a breakdown of a social position, a impoverishment of farm, and a sudden change which come from western infiltration. The jar in Joseon had originated in patternless earthenware which come from keeping an instrument in the bronze age. therefore, It had been changed with a practicality (from idea of practical science) and a variety of shape & pattern during whole time of Joseon. During Joseon, there were 4 kinds of jar. One is a vessel for a religious ceremony, the second is a vessel for burying with their corpses by reason of the believe in the world beyond the grave, the third is an instrument for makeup, and the fourth is a vessel for living. After foreign invasions and importing cobalt blue, Chunghwa-baekja (white porcelain painted with under-glaze blue) had been remade from the middle term of the 17th century. It caused that Chunghwa-baekja in the 18th century enjoyed its golden days and expressed the best beauty of Korea, and that Chunghwa-baekja in the 19th century increased their demands suddenly and also made various vessel. In addition about producing places, this paper divided into Kumsariyo that is pure white with neatness (it reflects style of literary) and Punwonriy which stands out a diagram by mass-production, until punwon came under a private management in 1883.
