초록

This study aims to analyze one’s movement and find reasons of oneʼs movement pattern by using LMA and BF. Also it intends to introduce and create movements using LMA and BF, and restore natural and dynamic harmony in the client’s body. Using LMA and BF, this study will observe and analyze the clients’ body and movement by using major four categories, Body, Effort, Shape, and Space. Based on the result of the observation and analysis, I create upper and lower movements and exercises for the client using BF and LMA. After teaching, I analyze the progress and problems, and evaluate the lessons from the entire study. Through observation, I found her injury, hobby, and social activities related to her daily movements. Her left ankle and knee injuries were caused by instabilities of her lower body. Because her lower body was not stable, she easily loses control of her weight. Also, the right side of her body carried more weight than the left. Therefore, her walk became passive and her upper chest, especially her shoulder, was tense, so I created upper and lower body movements for her. At the end of the process, I saw dramatic change in her movements. First, her lower body was grounded and balanced. Her upper body was mobile and her upper chest was relaxed. I found that Laban’s four major concept: Body, Effort, Shape, and Space affinities supported to ground her lower body and release her upper chest. Second, her body lengthened up using Light Weight Effort and shortened using Strong Weight in Vertical Dimension. Third, she created natural rhythm in her breathing pattern. I could see her energy traveling through her body. Because of this, she used a lot of Shape Flow. Utilizing these concepts in class help her movements to be harmonious and expressive. Through this study, Laban Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentals can be applied to the people who move unstably out of balance and harmony in the body and the mind. As a result, LMA and BF open doors to a natural basis that one needs to work with, and it allows one to gain awareness of the body. One gains awareness of oneself and the space surrounding him/her. One can clearly see the inner self and also be in harmony with one’s surroundings. It is a useful tool for the further therapeutic body movement studies. However, this study limits generalization because the study has done for only one person. Therefore, I hope to see more verity level of future studies on restoring one’s balance and harmony in the body and the mind for many others.

Abstract
