경천사 십층석탑 조성과 조성 장인의 연구

Abstract

A Study on Constructor of The tenth-storied Stone Pagoda at Gyeongcheon Temple Sin Eun Jeong The tenth-storied stone pagoda at Gyeongcheon temple was erected in 1348 wishing peace and luck Yuan period(元代). The unique form and the sculpturing on the body has been drawing attention of many. The pagoda was taken to Japan in 1907, but returned to Korea in 1918. The damage made then was restored in 1960, but due to heavy weathering and contamination it was once again taken apart in 1995. The present time, conservated pagoda of Gyeongcheon temple is exhibited in National Museum. The ten-storied stone pagoda at Gyeongcheon temple is very beautiful because of Buddhist assemly of body part. And help study of architecture. On the tiered base, a dragon and a lion is sculpted on the bottom base. On the second base a story of a Xuanzang monk(玄裝法師) from Xiyouji novel(西遊記) of Ming period(明代) is sculptured and finally on the third base stories in connection with monks are shown. These image of Buddhist carving shown on the body of the pagoda is a total of 16 scenes. Because it is made meaning of Buddhist building. So the tiered base of ten-storied pagoda at Gyeongcheon temple is three-storied high, facing outwards in four directions(四面突出形). It is look like builiding stereobate. The shape of the tiered base has its origin from the ancient Chinese stylobate-formed architecture, similar to the form found in tiered base of the Lamaist Dagoba(喇嘛塔). The pagoda has subject matter of China. But has pattern of Goryeo period carving. Therefore I think that pagoda is made by Goryeo period technician and is designed by Yuan period(元代) technician.
