Abstract

This study presented aggregated features of wealth effect on domestic households' consumption through experimental analysis of time series data and micro panel data of KLIPS for the period of 2nd to 10th year. An analysis was made of macro data and found that 1%p increase in a prices of household's residences raises 0.12%p of households' consumption, which is statistically significant and that domestic consumption was also caused by real estate. However, an analysis was found that 1%p increase in a prices of shares reduces 0.02%p of households' consumption. An analysis was made of households' panel data and found that 1% increase in a total of market prices of household's residences raises 0.09% (fixed effect) and 0.02% (GMM) of households' consumption, both of which are statistically significant and that domestic consumption was also caused by real estate. However, the effect of financial assets such as households' shares and bonds are found to be intermixed, representing insignificant values. The results evidence that housing prices have a higher effect on consumption than financial assets do in Korea, unlike U.S.A where financial market is mature and individual financial investments account for high rates.
