본 연구에서는 1960년대부터 최근까지의 연도별 또는 분기별 자료를 이용하여 경제성장이실업률에 어떤 영향을 미치는가를 살펴보았다. 실증분석결과 외환위기의 여파를 배제하기 위해상수항과 설명변수에 더미변수를 추가하는 경우 1%p 경제성장률 상승 충격에 대한 실업률변화의 반응은 분석 기간이나 모형에 관계없이 -0.1%p～-0.2%p 범위 내에서 안정적으로나타난다. 반면 외환위기의 영향을 고려하는 경우에는 오쿤계수나 VAR 모형에서 실업률의 반응이매우 커짐을 볼 수 있다. 성별, 연령별, 교육수준별로 살펴본 결과에 따르면 경제성장충격에대한 15-29세 청소년 실업률의 반응이 분석 기간이나 모형에 관계없이 다른 실업률에 비해가장 크게 나타났다.
Abstract
The paper examines the effect of economic growth on the unemployment rate by using yearly or quarterly data from the 1960s to the present. As a result of the empirical analysis, when the dummy variable is added to the constant term and the explanatory variables to exclude the aftermath of the currency crisis, the response of the change in unemployment rate to the impact of an increase in the 1%p economic growth rate appears stable within the range of -0.1%p～-0.2%p regardless of the analysis period or model. On the other hand, when considering the effects of the currency crisis, the Okun’s coefficient or the response of unemployment rate in the VAR model becomes very large. According to the empirical results of the analysis by gender, age, and education level, the response of 15～29 year old youth unemployment rate to economic growth shock is the largest compared to other unemployment rates regardless of the analysis period or model.
