올림픽대회에서의 금메달 획득은 대내적으로는 국민의 사기를 높이고, 자긍심을 고취시키는 역할을 할 뿐만 아니라, 대외적으로는 국위를 선양하고 국가 간의 외교적 수단으로 활용되고 있다. 그러나 금메달 획득에 대해 국민들이 느끼는 무형의 편익은 시장가치로는 평가가 불가능하며, 특별한 방법론적 접근이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 소비자 효용이론에 근거한 컨조인트 분석법을 적용하여 금메달의 비시장 가치를 동계올림픽과 하계올림픽이라는 두 속성수준별로 분석함으로써 금메달의 화폐가치를 유도하고자 한다. 설문조사는 2004년 5월부터 한 달 간 실시되었으며, 서울시 480가구에 대한 컨조인트 설문결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 분석결과 올림픽 금메달 1개의 가치는 하계올림픽의 경우 연간 가구당 4,471원이었으며, 동계올림픽 금메달의 가치는 연간 가구당 3,832원으로 나타났다. 이 같은 연구 결과는 기존에 측정 불가능했던 무형의 편익을 화폐가치화 한 것으로써, 엘리트체육육성정책의 수립 및 평가 등에서 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 특히, 본 연구는 향후 정책결정자에게 다양한 금메달 목표 시나리오 별 편익을 사전적으로 추정할 수 있도록 하는 새로운 틀을 제공한다.
Abstract
In recent days, a growing nationwide enthusiasm of sports has led to increasingly call for proper consideration of these potential and invisible impacts such that winning the Olympic medal makes people have a national pride and community sprite and contributes to enhancing national glory. This paper attempts to apply a conjoint analysis to quantifying the non-market value of golden medal in Olympic summer games and Olympic winter games. The annual non-market values of golden medal in summer games and in winter games are 4,471 Korean won and 3,832 Korean won per household, respectively. The quantitative result provided in this study can be usefully employed in policy-making process related to elite sports. Especially, it provides a methodological framework to estimate benefit for various alternatives in advance.
